NVIDIA GeForce R285 Beta Drivers
Today (the 13th September 2011), NVIDIA announced the beta release of the R285 drivers, which comes with many improvements and fixes.
GeForce users, take note – our first batch of GeForce R285 drivers are now available for download on GeForce.com. This new driver provides yet another performance boost for GeForce 400 and 500 series users and provides updated features and functionality for 3D Vision, PhysX and SLI. The equivalent notebook R285 Verde driver is also available for download for on GeForce.com.
Here are some GeForce R285 driver highlights:
- Performance boost across a variety of games with a single GeForce 400 series or 500 series GPU
- Performance boost across a variety of games with NVIDIA SLI technology
- New PhysX System Software version 9.11.06.21.

Of most interest will be the aforementioned performance improvements. On the GeForce GTX 580, SLI users can expect to receive frame rate boosts.
Resolved Single GPU Issues in NVIDIA GeForce R285 Beta Drivers
- Battle Realms: The mini-map is blank.
- GeForce 400 series, 3D Vision: Stereoscopic 3D cannot be disabled using the IR emitter button.
- GeForce 400 Series: Company of Heroes – there are thin yellow lines of corruption when played in DirectX 10 mode with Transparency AA enabled.
- GeForce 500 series: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – the game stutters in certain maps after several minutes of gameplay.
- GeForce 500 series: GPU power levels appear to fluctuate unnecessarily while navigating the Firefox browser.
- GeForce 500 Series: Stereoscopic 3D does not work in windowed mode if Aero is enabled after enabling 3D Stereo.
- GeForce 500/400 Series: After changing the brightness and color settings using the NVIDIA Control Panel, the settings do not take effect.
- GeForce GTX 560 Ti: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – there is corruption on the edges of some objects when Transparency AA is enabled.
- NVIDIA Control Panel: Changes made on the Adjust Desktop Color Settings page are not preserved across a system reboot.
- NVIDIA Update: Clicking the new driver notification balloon does not open a browser to the NVIDIA driver download page. Instead, the NVIDIA Update window appears.
- NVIDIA Update: Error message occurs when applying changes made to the NVIDIA Update preferences.
Resolved Multi-GPU Issues in NVIDIA GeForce R285 Beta Drivers
- Adobe Flash: Blue-screen crash occurs when playing Adobe flash content at HD resolutions and then switching to full-screen mode.
- GeForce 400 series: Aion – the game performs poorly when SLI is enabled.
- The Witcher – the game performs poorly when SLI is enabled.

This month’s AMD Catalyst™ 11.7 driver release comes with a sneak peek into the upcoming AMD Catalyst™ 11.8 driver which we are extremely excited about. But first things first, let’s briefly talk about the AMD Catalyst™ 11.7 driver.
As many of you know, some months we focus on performance improvements much like you will see with the AMD Catalyst 11.8 Preview driver. Other months we focus on adding exciting features such as AMD Steady Video like you saw with the AMD Catalyst™ 11.6 driver. However, this month we took a slightly different approach. Thanks to feedback from our community, we’ve focused on resolving some minor issues that have been reported. We work tirelessly to continually improve our drivers, and here’s a look at the issues we’ve resolved in AMD Catalyst 11.7.
- Issues experienced with mouse cursor lag
- Log event (Event ID 62464) issues when playing video content
- System hangs seen in the AMD Catalyst™ 11.6 driver on specific HDMI and DP displays
- Blu-ray playback using PowerDVD 10 under High Performance mode no longer randomly displays a blank screen.
- Some Divx format files no longer display video corruption using WinDVD.
- AMD SteadyVideo is now applied to Home Video clips using WinDVD 10.
- Chequerboard corruption is no longer displayed intermittently when playing DirectX 10 titles in an AMD CrossFire™ technology configuration and AMD Eyefinity technology-enabled.
- Shogun II now renders the cinematics correctly when run in various Eyefinity configurations.
- Video playback now works correctly when Hardware acceleration is enabled with VLC Player version 1.1.9.
- AMD CrossFire technology now functions correctly when playing Hamilton’s Great Adventure.
- PowerDVD now correctly handles 3D Blu-ray content.
Now let’s talk about the AMD Catalyst™ 11.8 Preview Driver which most of you are probably excited to learn about. With this preview of next month’s driver you are going to see some amazing performance improvements which are highlighted below. You will also see how we are further enabling the 3D ecosystem by offering AMD HD3D technology support on some of the latest and greatest DisplayPort panels on the market.

Featuring advances in CPU to GPU data throughput, the latest version of the APP SDK provides developers a solid foundation to take full advantage of Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), including the latest AMD A-Series APUs offering brilliant HD graphics, supercomputer-like performance and All-Day battery life. The AMD APP SDK helps developers quickly and easily tap into the power of GPU compute and parallel processing in heterogeneous computing platforms, building on the OpenCL™ industry standard to help developers reach a broader market by writing applications that run on a variety of device form factors.
The updated AMD APP SDK v2.5 delivers a key performance enhancement that reduces CPU to GPU bandwidth limitations, achieving
effective data transfer rates as high as 15GB per second with the latest AMD A-Series APUs. In addition to raw performance, AMD A-Series APUs also enable advanced capabilities that can greatly enhance the computing experience such as gestural interfaces, multi-monitor support, 3D entertainment and real-time image stabilization. AMD Quad Buffer API now available

In keeping with AMD’s ‘Open Approach’ to stereo 3D, today we are releasing our quad buffer API on AMD Developer Central. You’re probably wondering what a quad buffer is and why we’re telling you about its public release. In a nutshell, our quad buffer is a piece of technology used by our middleware partners DDD and iZ3D to enable immersive stereo 3D gaming experiences on active shutter 3D displays supporting industry standards such as HDMI 1.4a, DisplayPort 3D and 3D displays that require frame sequential/page flipped or frame packed input format.
With our AMD HD3D technology, we’ve brought support for stereo 3D to our current generations of graphics solutions; ATI Radeon™ HD 5000, AMD Radeon™ HD 6000 Series and A-Series APUs. The quad buffer not only enables stereo 3D video playback, but can be used to add native support for stereo 3D in video games and supports DirectX ®9, 10 and 11. Eidos-Montreal has recently announced their implementation of native HD3D using this same quad buffer API, and now this is open to all developers so anyone can download on AMD Developer Central.
AMD’s approach to the stereo 3D ecosystem is simple; build the stereo 3D experience you want to have. Overview of AMD Quad Buffer API
This SDK allows developers to access AMD’s Quad-Buffer API to support stereoscopic 3D displays that require frame sequential or frame packed format input using custom DirectX 9,10, and 11 extensions.

The API outlined in this SDK can be used for showing DirectX games in stereoscopic 3D, video playback applications and viewing 3D pictures. This API also abstracts the underlying display interface technology. This means the developer doesn’t have to code differently for DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, or VGA 3D displays since the transport mechanism of the stereo image pairs is transparent to the application.

- This API is supported by the following GPUs - AMD Radeon® HD 5000 series, AMD Radeon® HD 6000 series.
- DirectX 9, 10 and 11 are all supported.

AMD OpenCl APP SDK 2.5 update
Today I would like to introduce you to AMD’s latest update for OpenCL, AMD APP SDK 2.5 and the Catalyst 11.7 drivers. Since the Catalyst 11.4 driver release back in April, AMD’s OpenCL runtime for Windows platforms has been integrated into the Catalyst drivers ensuring that end users have an easy path to benefit from important enhancements to performance and other features.
With this latest release we have added key performance enhancements for APUs that free applications from the CPU-to-GPU bandwidth limitation imposed by the PCIe bus, achieving effective data transfer rates as high as 15GB/s. See the other post “

On Windows platforms the run-time now includes broad multi-GPU support. Included in this is OpenCL support for APU plus discrete GPU providing compute performance scaling across the GPUs, and including support for PowerExpress.
The Khronos FP64 extension is enabled for the “Cypress”, double precision capable, family of GPUs, and is planned to be enabled for all double precision capable GPUs as we go forward.
Further details on new features in this release are:
- Kernel launch times have been further reduced.
- The LLVM compiler version used for OpenCL kernels has been upgraded.
- Includes support for use of SSE3 and SSE4.
- Added support for partial use of FMA4 and XOP instructions.
- It is no longer necessary to use the -fno-alias compiler command line option.
- PCIe transfer overhead has been reduced under Linux.
- Transfers between CPUs and GPUs are improved for buffers declared with either the CL_MEM_USE_HOST_PTR or the CL_MEM_ALLOC_HOST_PTR flag.
- For APUs, zero copy buffers created as CL_MEM_ALLOC_HOST_PTR | CL_MEM_READ_ONLY offer improved GPU read performance.
- The runtime supports multi-GPU, including simultaneous use of the GPU on both and APU and a discrete GPU on systems running under Windows.
- OpenCL built-in functions leverage AVX on capable CPUs
- Support for PowerExpress 4.0.
- Support for atomic counters for discrete GPUs.
- Support for headless GPU operation.
- OpenCL can be used by a Windows service.
- UVD3 / MPEG-2 support.
- The clFFT library supports radix 3 and radix 5, including support for mixed radix 2/3/5.
- The BLAS library supports the D/S SYRK, D/S SYR2K, D/S GEMV, D/S SYMV functions.
- The Khronos FP64 extension is supported for the ATI Radeon™ HD 5900 and 5800 series, as well as the AMD FirePro™ V8800 and V8700 series.
- gDEBugger 6.0 extension is available for Visual Studio.
- Starting with Catalyst 11.8, improved runtime features appear regularly in the monthly Catalyst releases for Windows.
- Kernel Analyzer 1.9 supports Catalyst releases 11.4 to 11.7.

Intel® Boot Loader Development Kit Now for Embedded Platforms
On the 28th July 2011, Intel announced the availability of the Intel® Boot Loader Development Kit (Intel® BLDK), a software toolkit that allows the creation of customized firmware offerings for embedded Intel processor-based platforms without requiring a full BIOS (Basic Input-Output System) solution. This offering provides developers with a more flexible solution that helps to lower bill of materials costs, reduce boot times and offers greater firmware initialization flexibility and reusability. This is free and publicly available software with the initial release supporting platforms based on the Intel® Atom Processor E6xx Series.
Overview of Intel® Boot Loader Development Kit
The Intel® Boot Loader Development Kit (Intel® BLDK) is a software toolkit that allows creation of customized and optimized initialization firmware solutions for embedded Intel® processor-based platforms. The Intel BLDK enables rapid development of firmware for fixed-function embedded designs—those requiring basic initialization and functionality rather than the full capabilities delivered with a traditional BIOS.
The foundation of the Intel BLDK is Intel’s latest implementation of the UEFI Specification Version 2.3 is the Intel® UEFI Development Kit 2010 (Intel® UDK2010). Consequently, the Intel BLDK is fully compliant with the latest UEFI standards and compatible for use with the Intel® UEFI Development Kit Debugger Tool and UEFI 2.0 Shell. The NVIDIA Beta GeForce R275 drivers are now available for download at the NVIDIA site. This updated driver set comes with better performance and enhanced functionality to increase and ease the display of graphics.
The NVIDIA Beta GeForce R275 drivers were announced on the 17th May 2011. Notebook PC users can download the Verde R275 driver at the same source as it is similar to the NVIDIA Beta GeForce R275 drivers.

Answer：Please uninstall older version or empty the FormatFactory folder first , then install new version again.
Question : when I use "All to RMVB",appear error message "Fail to decode".
Answer：FormatFactory use system installed codec to decode sourec files. you must install some codec that your files needed. You can install "K-Lite" or other codec pack to solve this problem.
Question : How to make VCD/DVD.
Answer： FormatFactory only support file to file conversion. You can convert to MPG ,then use "Nero" to burn VCD/DVD.
Question : When I trys to rip DVD , several of my dvds get errors.
Answer：Please click mencoder.rar download and unrar it , then replace "FormatFactory\FFModules\mencoder.exe" in FormatFactory installation folder.
Question : After I convert a movie with subtitle, the result come out without character ç, ã, é and Á.
Answer： Because the defaut font doesn't support these character , Please change subtitle font to "Tahoma (Tahomabd.ttf)"
