The AXi Series of power supplies have completely changed how a desktop power supply works by taking out the slower, less accurate PWM controller and supervisor IC and replaced them with a state of the art digital signal processor. The following briefly explains the technology we use, the benefits of it and how it enhances your computing experience with the Corsair Link 2 software.

Why the Corsair AX860i is the World’s Most Advanced Desktop PSU:

1.) Digitally Controlled Power
The revolutionary AX Series AX860i PSU and AX Series AX760i PSU are the first desktop PC power supply to use a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to provide digitally-controlled power. This results in unmatched DC Voltage Output Regulation (<+/- 1.5% on the +12V rail) over a wide range of loads. This means your gaming hardware will never break a sweat, even in the most demanding situations.

2.) 80 PLUS Platinum Efficiency and Incredibly Low Noise
The state-of-the-art hybrid digital design delivers amazing efficiency (up to 92%), resulting in incredibly low heat production. This means the AX860i and AX760i can be cooled efficiently at very low fan speeds, at high wattage loads. It even operates in a silent, fanless mode up to 30% of the rated load (228W) at room temperature, which means you could even be gaming while the fan is silent!

3.) Incredibly High-Quality Power
High-quality power is much more than just high-efficiency and stable voltages. Low ripple/noise is essential to the long-term performance and reliability of your high-performance components. This is even more important if you are overclocking or running power-hungry components, such as multiple high-end GPUs. Focus on: Digitally-Controlled Power
The Corsair AX860i uses a server-grade power train architecture and a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to provide digitally controlled power. This state-of-the art DSP-controlled design features a proprietary control architecture to allow for dynamic, on-the-fly performance optimization.

This design delivers exceptionally stable power over the whole load range, and automatically compensates for DC output cable voltage drop. This ensures tight DC output voltage regulation without the ripple/noise and other issues associated with traditional PSU architectures.

The AX860i also incorporates digital power factor (PF). This ensures the highest possible power factor and lowest total harmonic distortion under all load conditions, via an optimized software algorithm. Also, the digital platform ensures fast real-time performance tuning and power-train optimization, resulting in a state-of-the-art power supply that is simply unmatched in the marketplace.

Focus on: Efficiency, 80 PLUS Platinum

The AX860i’s super-high efficiency is made possible due to a combination of advanced technologies and smart design features. In addition to providing superior voltage regulation, the use of a DSP also results in a reduction in the overall number of discrete components in the design, since the DSP replaces a number of discrete components. The reduced component count means fewer losses in the circuit, and increased efficiency. The reduced component count also results in improved reliability (since less can go wrong). In addition, Corsair used state-of-the-art magnetic modeling during the design phase to optimize the performance of magnetic components, also maximize efficiency.

Additionally, the AX860i utilizes Zero Voltage Switching and Zero Current Switching (ZVS / ZCS) technology, to switch at near 0V and 0A. This minimizes switching losses (the product of V x I) and increases efficiency.

Focus on: Low Noise and Fanless Operation

A major benefit to the high efficiency of the AX860i is very low heat generation, which allows the AX860i to be cooled effectively at extremely low fan noise levels. The AX860i also operates in a silent, fanless mode up to 30% of the total wattage (258W). Thanks to the highly efficient design of the latest GPUs, this provides the very real possibility of fanless operation even while gaming.

And, for PCs with higher power requirements (overclocked or with multi-GPUs) the AX860i will still be extremely quiet even at higher loads, due to the very slow ramp in fan rpm, and also the use of a high-quality, quiet 120mm fan.
Focus on: High-quality Power – exceeding the ATX Spec
Providing high-quality power is more than just stable voltages and high-efficiency – in fact, high-efficiency alone is not a reliable measure of quality. Low ripple and noise allows your other performance-critical components, such as graphics cards, to operate reliably for longer.
In addition to the DSP-control, the AX860i features individual DC-DC regulation for 3.3V, 5V and 12V rails, and secondary side synchronous rectification, utilizing MOSFETs that have lower losses than the conventional output rectification schemes. An advanced 4-layer modular connector board PCB ensures a better ground return plane, lower resistance and low voltage drops. This, combined with circuit trace optimization, also helps to minimize ripple and noise.

AX860i DC Output Voltage Total DC Output Regulation
+5Vdc <+/-1.5%
+3.3Vdc <+/-1.5%
+12Vdc <+/-1.5%
-12Vdc <+/-3%

+3.3Vdc <30mVpk-pk
+12Vdc <40mVpk-pk
-12Vdc <40mVpk-pk
+5Vsbdc <40mVpk-pk

The AX860i is designed to exceed the ATX specification for ripple and noise, and voltage regulation. For example, the ripple/noise on the critical +12V is rated to be less than 40mV, which is 3x better than the maximum allowed by the ATX Specification.

Focus on: Corsair Link

The hybrid digital design of the AX860i allows for a full suite of telemetry to be communicated from the AX860i to the PC over a Corsair Link interface to the included USB dongle, or Corsair Link Commander Unit (sold separately). Using the free Corsair Link Dashboard software, you can then monitor a huge range of performance variables, including power input and output, efficiency, fan speed, and internal temperature. You can also configure and customize some features, including selecting fan speed modes, and even select between single rail or multi-rail modes, with selectable OCP trip points. This allows you to, for example, configure each PCI-E graphics connector separately, providing a higher maximum amount of current to a high-end GPU in a multi-GPU setup.

760W Professional Series AXi specifications
Modern CPUs and graphics cards all require power to be supplied over the +12V rail. The 760W Professional Series AXi PSU features a huge 63.3 Amp (859.2 Watt) single +12V rail, which makes it ideal for high-end gaming PCs with single and multiple GPUs. Uniquely, it can also be configured as a multi-rail device with individual PCI-E over-current protection (OCP) trip points, providing an unmatched level of flexibility and control.
