Introducing the GPU-Accelerated Cloud

NVIDIA GRID™ for enterprise and SMB customers offload VDI graphics processing from the CPU to the GPU, allowing the data center manager to deliver true PC graphics-rich experiences to more users for the first time.

Benefits of NVIDIA GRID for IT:
  • Leverage industry-leading VDI solutions, including Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware
  • Add your most graphics-intensive users to your VDI solution
  • Improve the productivity of all VDI users

Benefits of NVIDIA GRID for users:
  • Highly responsive windows and rich multimedia experiences
  • Access to all critical applications, including the most 3D-intensive
  • Access from anywhere, on any device

A true PC desktop experience for users, virtualized for IT professionals

WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING

"Using a GPU for hardware-accelerated graphics allows customers to provide a more rich and interactive graphical experience across an even broader set of use cases. All the operational benefits such as vMotion, HA, DRS, etc. are also supported, allowing customers to easily expand or enhance their existing virtual desktop infrastructures. We believe this will enable customers to take their virtual desktop deployments to a different level as they look to further expand the potential of their end users."
Warren Ponder
Director of Product Management for End-User Computing at VMware.

"NVIDIA virtualized GPU technology aligns with Cisco's vision of cloud and delivery of desktop and rich-media applications. GPU virtualization is the one major technology challenge that has been holding back deeper adoption of VDI in the enterprise. We believe NVIDIA's breakthrough will deliver the unique user experience and ease of management customers have been demanding."
David Yen
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Data Center Business Group at Cisco.

VGX Hypervisor

A key technology of the GRID platform that enables hardware virtualization of the GPU is the NVIDIA VGX Hypervisor. The VGX Hypervisor allows a virtual machine to interact directly with a GPU and manages the GPU resources so multiple users can share common hardware, while improving user density.

With the NVIDA VGX Hypervisor, each virtual machine has direct access to the GPU for a true PC experience in the cloud.

User-Selectable Machines (USMs)

The VGX Hypervisor enables the use of User-Selectable Machines (USMs) — allowing system administrators to configure and provision the physical GPU hardware to take on the characteristics needed for specific types of users. This gives IT departments the freedom to support multiple pools of user types, all from a single server.

USMs deliver optimal utilization of hardware resources and the flexibility to configure and deploy new users' desktops based on changing enterprise demands.

NVIDIA Standard User-Selectable Machine

NVIDIA standard USMs come bundled with NVIDIA GRID K2 and K2 boards to provide the maximum user density possible through hardware virtualization. Office productivity professionals can now experience low-latency, high-quality interaction and multimedia.

NVIDIA Quadro User-Selectable Machine

NVIDIA Quadro is the graphics standard for professionals in the workstation industry. The Quadro USM provides industry-leading experience for designers, artists, and scientists who rely on applications requiring interactive 3D graphics and full compatibility. All Quadro professional drivers and APIs (DirectX, OpenGL, and NVIDIA CUDA) are enabled via Quadro USMs for full workstation application certifications, so IT managers can deploy the same Quadro desktop experience remotely.

GRID Boards

NVIDIA’s Kepler™ architecture-based GRID boards are specifically designed to enable rich graphics in virtualized environments.

GPU Virtualization¹

GRID boards feature NVIDIA Kepler-based GPUs that, for the first time, allow hardware virtualization of the GPU. This means multiple users can share a single GPU, improving user density while providing true PC performance and compatibility.

Low-Latency Remote Display²

NVIDIA’s patented low-latency remote display technology greatly improves the user experience by reducing the lag that users feel when interacting with their virtual machine. With this technology, the virtual desktop screen is pushed directly to the remoting protocol.

H.264 Encoding³

The Kepler GPU includes a high-performance H.264 encoding engine capable of encoding simultaneous streams with superior quality. This provides a giant leap forward in cloud server efficiency by offloading the CPU from encoding functions and allowing the encode function to scale with the number of GPUs in a server.

Maximum User Density

GRID boards have an optimized multi-GPU design that helps to maximize user density. The GRID K1 board features 4 GPUs and 16 GB of graphics memory, allowing it to support up to 100 users on a single board.

Power Efficiency

GRID boards are designed to provide data center-class power efficiency, including the revolutionary new streaming multiprocessor, called "SMX". The result is an innovative, proven solution that delivers revolutionary performance per-watt for the enterprise data center.

24/7 Reliability

GRID boards are designed, built, and tested by NVIDIA for 24/7 operation. Working closely with leading server vendors such as Cisco, Dell, HP, IBM, and SuperMicro ensures GRID cards perform optimally and reliably for the life of the system.

Widest Range of Virtualization Solutions

GRID cards enable GPU-capable virtualization solutions from Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware, delivering the flexibility to choose from a wide range of proven solutions.
